36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;

     we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Wait, hold up a second. This is our second to last day memorizing Romans 8–perhaps the greatest chapter in the Bible–verse by verse. We’re nearly through it, and then we’ll begin the tough process of actually trying to string the whole thing together.

Let’s take another pause as well. It verse 36 Paul quotes Psalm 44, but then it verse 37, he decidedly says “No.” So is Paul contradicting the Old Testament? Is the great apostle committing great heresy. “No.” To make sense of today’s verses, we have to go back to yesterday’s.
