Romans 8:18-19

Memory Synthesis

This is a good point to take a step back and assess some of my weakness thus far. In theory, I should have been trying to recall the entire 8th chapter every day–that is, the entire chunk that I’ve memorized up to that point. That way, I would be able to remember the order of my mnemonics, and by the end of the month, I would be able to recall the whole chapter in order. Well…I’ve been slacking. Ever since the first few verses, I really haven’t tried to recall the whole chapter. Now, I have good news on two fronts: 1) our entire last week (plus a few days) will be devoted to synthesizing the whole chapter, so we are ok. 2) I can start with the synthesis project now, because we are entering the clearly-marked 2nd half of the chapter. So, from this point on, I will try to be diligent with recalling the entire second half of the chapter each day.

What’s the best way to go about this? I’m not entirely sure, but I think its important to try and recall the whole thing every morning as part of my morning devotional routine. After a night of sleeping on, you might be surprised how easy it is to solve previously complex problems. In our case, we’ll recall complex Bible verses. I think it’s important to keep an ordered list of all the mnemonics used so far and then review it right before bed (and read the whole chapter right before bed). This will allow the all-important information to steep in your mind overnight. Then, first thing in the morning, try to recall the entire order of mnemonics, and then try to put the actual verses to the acronyms. Don’t be discouraged if it’s slow going the first few days; just try to get a little farther each day.

Memory Technique

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

I’ve heard the first verse enough that I can remember it without an acronym.

For C W E E for C R = For Chris would eat eggs for cancer research.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. + For Chris would eat eggs for cancer research. = Romans 8:18, 19.
